5 of 5 Built to last, works great.... February 26, 2014
Reviewer: David Pritchett from Lapel, IN United States
I've been thinking of installing an insert in my fireplace for some time, but this year's cold weather put me over the top.  A friend recommended the Buck Model 74 insert and I absolutely love it.  The firebox is not huge, so it doesn't burn a ton of wood, but keeps the downstairs toasty.  It's a solid unit, but doesn't look "industrial" as some stove inserts to.  We chose the pewter door, and just LOVE seeing the entire firebox, rather than those tiny windows that most stoves have.  The blower is a bit loud, but it blows out the heat.  Also, the way it's constructed as a "box within a box", the top of the stove never gets too hot (good for the TV above it).  The warm air blows out from under the top, so what looks like the top of the stove is really the top of the air chamber/vent.  The result? When the sides and door glass are near 400 degrees, the actual top is less than 200.
